On October 17, 2024, the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Ilocos Sur Medical Society and the Rotary Club of Vigan, launched a feeding program aimed at addressing nutrition-related health issues in the community. The initiative took place at the San Vicente Integrated School, where it sought to improve the nutritional status of students and promote healthier eating habits.
As part of this effort, the βGulayan sa Paaralanβ garden was established on the school grounds. This initiative will serve as a sustainable source of supplementary food for the feeding program, allowing students to access fresh vegetables and learn about the importance of nutrition firsthand.
In addition to providing meals, the program includes educational components to raise awareness about nutrition, encouraging students and their families to adopt healthier lifestyle choices. By integrating practical gardening skills with nutritional education, the program aims to empower the community and foster a culture of wellness among the youth.
The collaboration between these organizations highlights the commitment to enhancing the well-being of local students and addressing pressing health concerns related to malnutrition in the region. Through these initiatives, the College of Medicine, the Ilocos Sur Medical Society, and the Rotary Club of Vigan are making significant strides toward building a healthier future for the community.
