SDG 17 - PARTERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

UNP Involvement in SDG Policy Development

Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17) emphasizes the critical importance of partnerships in achieving global sustainability. This goal recognizes that sustainable development is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration across all sectors of society worldwide. UNP plays a vital role in supporting SDG 17 through international collaborations, promotion of best practices, and dissemination of data, and evidence.

The University exemplifies this commitment by actively participating in initiatives like the SILLAG Region 1 consortium including DOST Region 1. UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join this collaborative effort, which aims to promote innovation, and support startups in creating sustainable solutions. This partnership demonstrates UNP’s dedication to working with government agencies, academic institutions, and private sector partners to drive sustainable development in the region.

UNP promotes inclusive decision-making processes that involve various stakeholders. A key example of this is the inclusion of a Student Regent on the University’s Board of Regents. The 2023 Student Regent, Hon. Jhunel F. Tanurio, serves as the President of the Student Council, and represents the student body in high-level decision-making. This ensures that student perspectives are considered in University governance.

UNP engages with local stakeholders through initiatives like research agenda consultations, which involve faculty, staff, and students in shaping the University’s research direction. These practices reflect UNP’s dedication to transparent, and participatory governance.

UNP launched initiatives aimed at engaging local stakeholders. The University’s approach to stakeholder identification, and engagement is evident in its initiatives.

A key aspect of UNP’s approach is its focus on client satisfaction, as emphasized on page 18 of the Quality Manual. This client-centric approach extends to the University’s engagement with local stakeholders, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes.

UNP utilizes a Relevant Interested Parties Needs and Expectations Log (RIPNEL) to systematically identify, and track the requirements of various stakeholders. This tool ensures a comprehensive understanding of community needs, and expectations.

Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17) emphasizes partnerships for sustainable development, with a focus on direct involvement in policy development at national, and regional levels. The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) exemplifies this commitment through various initiatives. UNP co-sponsored a national training workshop on advanced data mining tools and techniques, equipping participants with skills to analyze and interpret data for informed decision-making.

Additionally, UNP hosted the RI FLAIR 2 International Masterclass, which stressed strategies for effective higher education internationalization, and global excellence. These efforts demonstrate UNP’s active role in promoting collaborations, sharing knowledge, and contributing to policy development, aligning with SDG 17’s objectives of identifying challenges, developing strategies, and enabling adaptive management in pursuit of sustainable development goals.
