SDG 4 - QUALITY EDUCATION

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) demonstrates a strong commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education through its comprehensive approach to providing inclusive, and equitable quality education, and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Training on Basic First Aid cum Clean-up Drive (Damili Vol 2 Series 2023, Page 20, July 30, 2023)

This is a community-focused extension activity designed to equip participants with essential first aid skills while promoting environmental stewardship. This program combines theoretical instruction with practical exercises, teaching attendees how to respond effectively to common medical emergencies, perform basic life-saving techniques, and provide initial care before professional help arrives. In addition to the training, participants engage in a hands-on clean-up drive, where they actively contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in their community. By merging first aid education with community service, this initiative not only empowers individuals with critical life skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility toward public health and environmental care.

On November 28, 2023, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Cabugao National High School and Bungro-Margaay Elementary School, along with local barangays Turod and Bungro. This collaboration aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, emphasizing the importance of providing inclusive and equitable education opportunities. The MOA aims to create an educational environment that enhances access to essential resources for learners, including medical and dental services, skills training, and disaster risk reduction initiatives. By empowering communities through education, UNP is fostering sustainable practices that contribute to the overall improvement of educational quality and outcomes for all students.

On November 17, 2023, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) entered a partnership with Ag-agrao, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur, and Ag-agrao National High School through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) by Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, UNP President, along with local leaders Mr. Danilo B. Derige and Mr. Rolando Buenavista Jr. This collaboration emphasizes Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, underscoring the commitment to integrating sustainable development principles into educational and community frameworks. The initiative aims to foster an inclusive learning environment that enhances educational access and opportunities for students. Key services outlined in the MOA include medical and dental services, advocacy programs, skills training, technology transfer, and livelihood projects. Additionally, the partnership will provide training in disaster risk reduction, basic life support, and various educational programs to strengthen community capacity. With the College of Teacher Education (CTE) leading the effort, the MOA also focuses on improving instructional methods through the development of educational materials and the incorporation of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching. Through this collaboration, UNP strives to empower the Ag-agrao community, promoting quality education that aligns with global sustainable development goals.

The College of Teacher Education’s BTLEd, BTVTEd, and MATLE programs recently conducted a skills training in Candon City, advancing SDG 4 by promoting quality, practical education for community development. In partnership with local government units and the Gawad Kalinga Foundation, the training focused on meal and nutrition planning, with an emphasis on snack production skills. Led by experienced educators, participants learned how to create and modify recipes, ensure food safety, and uphold quality control in snack production, empowering them with knowledge and skills for sustainable livelihood opportunities. This initiative exemplifies inclusive and equitable education, enabling participants to gain valuable, income-generating skills.

When the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences conducted a pre-assessment survey at Vigan National High School East, they observed that some students were struggling and exhibited less interest in mathematics. This gave the department an ideal reason to pursue a tutorial while also giving these students a Christmas present.

It emphasizes the importance of recognizing & respecting diverse cultural backgrounds & gender identities within the context of civic engagement. It promotes inclusivity, equality, & empowerment for individuals, regardless of their gender or cultural heritage

This is to commemorate the heroism and martyrdom our great national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal which is highlighted by the raising of the Philippine flag and wreath laying-ceremonies at the country. As DLH being the responsible in teaching Rizal as a subject, is one with the nation in a simple celebration of our hero’s death anniversary.

The Project E2Row aims to educate adopted communities about the recent and emerging trends in computing. On March 27, 2023, the College, in collaboration with the UNP Student Council, implemented a training workshop for student leaders of the Lipit National High School. Specifically, the trainees learned about MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Netiquette.

UNP Law Clinic enhance learning opportunities to train Law Student Practitioners the art of lawyering. Further, it makes them appreciate the value of legal professional responsibility attach to the profession. This 1st Term of AY 2022-2023, our very own Law Student Practitioners with the supervision of our law faculty, provided public legal orientation on various laws (PD1602, RA9262, RA11313, RA10175) to the community and free legal assistance to the needy.
