SDG 4 - QUALITY EDUCATION

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) demonstrates comprehensive commitment to quality education through initiatives spanning teacher development, international collaboration, community outreach, and inclusive learning environments. UNP advances teacher education through the College of Teacher Education's Level IV retained accreditation for its Master of Arts in Education program, pre-deployment seminars through the Innadal program, and professional development workshops enhancing faculty competencies in program accreditation and research advising. The university celebrated 53 alumni who passed the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers, while faculty achievements include Dr. Fatima Nicetas Rabang-Alonzo's BigueƱo Teacher of the Year award. UNP produces highly competent professionals across disciplines, with the College of Nursing achieving 95.52% first-time taker passing rate in November 2024 with 219 new nurses, the College of Medicine celebrating 73 newly-minted physicians, the College of Health Sciences' BS Midwifery program ranking fifth nationally with 100% first-time taker passing rate, and the College of Social Work and College of Engineering honoring new licensed professionals. Technical and vocational education thrives through TESDA NC II certifications in Electronic Products Assembly and Servicing, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, and Automotive Servicing with 100% passing rates, while practical skills training in house-wiring and fire safety empowers communities.

UNP promotes global citizenship through the SEA-Teacher Project, sending 31 future educators to Indonesian universities including Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Universitas Negeri Surakarta, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, and Universitas Borneo Tarakan while welcoming seven inbound student teachers and introducing Ilocano culture to international participants. The university signed memoranda of agreement with AFS Intercultural Programs Philippines and Indonesian universities to promote academic exchange, while the College of Architecture partnered with the University of Hong Kong for heritage documentation and was recognized as finalist at the World Architecture Festival 2024 Student Charrette. Students achieved international recognition winning first place in folk dancing, drama, and singing categories at the International Collaborative Contest 2024, while UNP co-hosted the CERN@70 online conference and featured an Ilokano scholar from Hawaii at the COMMference. The university hosted benchmarking visits from Tarlac State University, Batangas State University, Bataan Peninsula State University, and Cagayan State University, sharing strategies on internationalization, alumni relations, and educational management, demonstrating commitment to international academic engagement and institutional excellence.

UNP extends educational opportunities through partnerships with multiple schools including DRGMHS, Balaleng Elementary School, Pantay Tamurong National High School, and Philippine Science High School. The Bachelor of Elementary Education program continued Project DUR-AS improving literacy and numeracy, EdD students spearheaded Project Dap-ayan ti SIRIB for community educational development, and Project LA.P.I.S. was launched in Nagtupacan and Pudoc Elementary Schools. The Department of Languages and Humanities provided math and science tutorials to Vigan high schools and continued literacy programs, while the College of Arts and Sciences promoted scientific literacy and cultural heritage at partner schools. UNP ensures inclusive and equitable education through the Center for Gender and Development's training for teachers, seminars on gender and health, and partnerships providing training to multiple institutions. The Bachelor of Secondary Education program delivered Gender and Development workshops educating future teachers on gender-responsive pedagogy, while symposiums on GAD-related laws and LGBTQ+ advocacy promoted inclusivity. The Medical Services Office and Center for Gender and Development established a breastfeeding room, seminars empowered students with special needs, mental health support was provided for students, and the university prioritized student health and safety during extreme heat conditions, demonstrating holistic commitment to accessible education for all.
