SDG 2 - ZERO HUNGER
UNP is taking a hands-on approach to tackle hunger in the Ilocos region, blending academic expertise with practical community initiatives. They’re not just teaching about food security; they’re actively working to make it a reality.
The University’s participation in international conferences like IRICEEA shows they are serious about staying at the forefront of agricultural innovation. But UNP doesn’t keep this knowledge locked up — they’re out in the community, teaching practical skills like puto cheese making, which not only fills bellies but also creates income opportunities for the locals.
UNP’s courses in meal planning, and snack production are equipping students with real-world skills to promote better nutrition. And this also creating a ripple effect as students learn, then share this knowledge with their families and communities, gradually improving eating habits across the region.
The University has also co-hosted research congresses, they’re bringing together bright minds to tackle food security challenges. There is so much more to look forward to, and University is taking strides to create a campus community garden, and partnering with local farmers.
What’s impressive is how UNP weaves these efforts into every aspect of University life – from classroom teaching to community outreach. They’re not just ticking boxes; they’re genuinely committed to creating a future where no one in their region goes hungry.
In essence, UNP is stepping up as a local champion in the fight against hunger, tailoring their approach to the unique needs of the Ilocos region aimed at practicality, support for local, and the best thing is, UNP is set to making a real difference.
