SDG 13 - CLIMATE ACTION
UNP isn’t just talking about climate change – they’re prepping up their sleeves, and getting to work. In 2021, they kicked things off by creating an Environmental Management Office, showing they mean business when it comes to saving our planet.
UNP students echo their learnings as they teach children at Banaoang Elementary School on how to turn trash into art. It’s not just about recycling; it’s about inspiring the next generation of eco-warriors.
Then there’s their “#BeatPlasticPollution” campaign. For an entire month, UNP said “no” to the use of plastic bags, utensils, and all that single-use plastic products. It’s like they declared war on plastic, and everyone on campus joined the fight.
But UNP doesn’t stop at banning plastic. They’re turning climate action into a cooperation, with everything from vertical gardening to environmental project proposals for saving the planet.
And they’re not keeping all this eco-goodness to themselves. UNP’s out there in the community, teaching folks about waste management, and marine conservation. They even got on their hands with coastal clean-ups, and mangrove planting.
To cap it all off, they held an environmental summit that was less of a lecture, and more of a call to arms. It’s clear that at UNP, protecting the environment isn’t just a subject – it’s a way of life.
From crafting long-term environmental policies to nurturing the next generation of climate champions, UNP is leading the charge against climate change. They’re not just preparing students for a changing world; they’re empowering them to change it for the better. That’s the UNP way – practical, passionate, and planet-friendly.

Green Consumerism and Sustainable Household Financing Training
The training is designed for the participants to change the attitude of consumers by encouraging them to purchase products that are manufactured without any harm to the ecosystem. Moreover, it aims to train participants to have a financial plan that safeguards against life’s surprises. It was conducted on January 10, 2023, at Bantay Integrated West Central School
Greening Tomorrow: UNP COE Mandated and Accredited Officers Unite for a Clean-Up Drive
On November 25, 2023, the Philippine Institute of Sanitary Engineers (PSSE) UNP Chapter, in partnership with the Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (JPICE), Agrimensores Club (AgC), Engineering Department Students’ Association (EDSA), The Edifice Publication, and various class mayors, conducted a large-scale clean-up drive in Nansuagao, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur. With the theme “The Journey Towards a Cleaner World Begins with a Single Step,” the event aimed to address the environmental challenges exacerbated by Typhoon Egay and promote sustainable practices within the community. A total of 110 garbage bags filled with plastic and glass bottles, clothes, styrofoam, and other waste were collected, underscoring the urgent need for environmental action. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action, as it highlights the importance of mitigating environmental risks and building resilience to climate change through collective community efforts. One key learning from the event is that while individual actions may seem small, when combined, they can lead to significant positive change, demonstrating the power of community collaboration in addressing climate-related challenges and contributing to a more sustainable future. As PSSE-UNPC President Precious Elaine Aaron aptly stated, “Promoting the importance of clean and safe communities will contribute to halting our endless problems regarding waste pollution.”
Salwad Aglawlaw Program (Protect the Environment)
The Salwad Aglawlaw program is a year-long event composed of various eco-related activities that aim to help spread and foster awareness on environmental protection, ecological solid waste management, and to take action towards the realization of the sustainable development goals. This initiative also supports the Banning of Single-Use Plastic program of the university.
