The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) is committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being through its comprehensive approach to medical education, research, and community engagement. As an institution offering medicine and allied health professional programs, UNP has developed a strategic plan to contribute significantly to achieving SDG 3.

Training on Blood Donor Counseling and Aftercare cum Blood Donation Drive (Feb. 18, 2023)

This is a vital extension activity designed to promote safe and compassionate blood donation practices within the community. This training equips participants with essential skills for counseling prospective blood donors, providing guidance on eligibility, health considerations, and the importance of regular blood donation. Additionally, the program covers effective aftercare techniques to ensure donor comfort and safety post-donation. Following the training, participants engage in a hands-on blood donation drive, encouraging community members to contribute to lifesaving blood reserves. This activity not only fosters a supportive environment for blood donors but also builds a network of trained individuals dedicated to sustaining the community’s blood supply for emergencies and medical needs (Insert Source).

This is a community-focused extension activity designed to equip participants with essential first aid skills while promoting environmental stewardship. This program combines theoretical instruction with practical exercises, teaching attendees how to respond effectively to common medical emergencies, perform basic life-saving techniques, and provide initial care before professional help arrives. In addition to the training, participants engage in a hands-on clean-up drive, where they actively contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in their community. By merging first aid education with community service, this initiative not only empowers individuals with critical life skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility toward public health and environmental care (Insert Source).

This training covers fundamental techniques for assessing needs, offering emotional comfort, and guiding affected individuals to appropriate resources, helping reduce stress and promote resilience. Additionally, the activity includes the dissemination of relevant research findings, offering participants evidence-based insights into the psychological needs and coping mechanisms of vulnerable populations. By combining hands-on training with research sharing, this activity aims to foster empathy, preparedness, and a supportive community capable of responding effectively to psychological distress.

This is a focused extension activity aimed at upgrading the skills and competencies of Philippine National Police (PNP) officers to meet the evolving demands of law enforcement. This training covers essential topics, including updated protocols, advanced investigative techniques, and community engagement strategies, ensuring that PNP personnel are well-equipped with the latest tools and knowledge. Through hands-on exercises, case studies, and expert-led discussions, participants refine their abilities to handle various situations with professionalism, accuracy, and sensitivity. This training not only enhances operational effectiveness but also promotes public trust by reinforcing the PNP’s commitment to maintaining safety and justice in their communities.

The University of Northern Philippines’ Master of Arts in Nursing program, together with its collaborators from the public and private sectors, is dedicated to putting into fruition the ardent desire to assist needy families with medical and dental care through medical and dental missions. Embodying the university’s advocacy to always include providing medical and dental care to needy and poor families. Its goal is to deliver health services such as medical and dental health services to the underprivileged and marginalized residents of the community. Since one of the group’s members lives in Barangay Paguraper in Sto Domingo, Ilocos Sur, the place was selected as the location for this medical and dental mission. A medical and dental mission was held at the barangay-covered court with the assistance of the barangay officials.

The Mental Health Caravan, conducted three times in 2023, aimed to raise mental health awareness, debunk stigma, and create a supportive environment for youth in various school communities in Ilocos Sur. Spearheaded by the BS Psychology Program in collaboration with the Provincial Youth Development Office and local schools, the caravans featured psychological counseling, support sessions, and interactive activities.

A Northwestern Luzon Chapter Outreach Program in partnership with the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Caritas Nueva Segovia, Ilocos Sur Medical Society, University of Northern Philippines – College of Medicine and Philippine Red Cross – Ilocos Sur Chapter at Alilem, Ilocos Sur.
