Training-Workshop on Investigative Report Writing and Presentation (Jan. 13, 2023)
This is an extension activity designed to enhance the skills of law enforcement personnel in composing and presenting investigative reports effectively. This training equips participants with techniques for clear, concise, and accurate documentation of investigative findings, adhering to procedural standards and legal requirements. Through practical exercises and hands-on guidance, attendees learn to structure reports, incorporate evidence logically, and present findings confidently. The program, aligned with the goals of the Open University and local law enforcement, aims to improve the quality and professionalism of investigative reporting, fostering greater accuracy and reliability in criminal investigations (Damili, Vol. 1 S. 2003, pp 9).
Training on Blood Donor Counseling and Aftercare cum Blood Donation Drive (Feb. 18, 2023)
Training on Fire Suppression (Fire Prevention Month 2023)
This is an essential extension activity focused on educating participants about effective fire prevention and control techniques. This training covers the basics of fire science, types of fire hazards, and the proper use of fire suppression equipment such as fire extinguishers, hoses, and safety gear. Through hands-on exercises and simulations, participants gain practical experience in safely and swiftly responding to fire emergencies. Emphasizing both preventive measures and emergency response skills, this training prepares individuals to handle fire risks responsibly, helping to foster safer communities and raise awareness on fire safety practices.
Training on Self-Defense (April 20, 2023)
This is a dedicated extension activity held in celebration of the 31st National Children’s Month. This program aims to deepen understanding of the unique needs of children and youth, emphasizing a protective approach that respects both gender and cultural diversity. Through interactive workshops, expert-led sessions, and group discussions, participants gain insights into safeguarding children’s rights, addressing issues like abuse and neglect, and creating inclusive environments that honor cultural values. The seminar promotes strategies for nurturing safe and supportive spaces, equipping attendees with the tools to advocate for and protect young people effectively. By fostering a holistic, inclusive approach, this activity seeks to empower communities to better support the well-being and development of children and youth.
Training on Basic First Aid cum Clean-up Drive (July 30, 2023)
This is a community-focused extension activity designed to equip participants with essential first aid skills while promoting environmental stewardship. This program combines theoretical instruction with practical exercises, teaching attendees how to respond effectively to common medical emergencies, perform basic life-saving techniques, and provide initial care before professional help arrives. In addition to the training, participants engage in a hands-on clean-up drive, where they actively contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in their community. By merging first aid education with community service, this initiative not only empowers individuals with critical life skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility toward public health and environmental care.
Psychological First Aid Training cum Research Dissemination (Oct. 27, 2023)
This is an impactful extension activity designed to equip participants with essential skills in providing immediate mental health support to individuals in crisis. This training covers fundamental techniques for assessing needs, offering emotional comfort, and guiding affected individuals to appropriate resources, helping reduce stress and promote resilience. Additionally, the activity includes the dissemination of relevant research findings, offering participants evidence-based insights into the psychological needs and coping mechanisms of vulnerable populations. By combining hands-on training with research sharing, this activity aims to foster empathy, preparedness, and a supportive community capable of responding effectively to psychological distress.

Retooling and Enhancement Training for PNP Personnel (Dec. 16, 2023)
This is a focused extension activity aimed at upgrading the skills and competencies of Philippine National Police (PNP) officers to meet the evolving demands of law enforcement. This training covers essential topics, including updated protocols, advanced investigative techniques, and community engagement strategies, ensuring that PNP personnel are well-equipped with the latest tools and knowledge. Through hands-on exercises, case studies, and expert-led discussions, participants refine their abilities to handle various situations with professionalism, accuracy, and sensitivity. This training not only enhances operational effectiveness but also promotes public trust by reinforcing the PNP’s commitment to maintaining safety and justice in their communities.
Securing FUTURE: Gender and Development “MOA Signing with Schools and Barangay Beneficiaries under the Adopt-a-School and Community Program of the University"
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Barangays of Turod and Bungro, alongside Cabugao National High School and Bungro-Margaay Elementary School, to enhance educational opportunities and promote gender equality in the community, aligning with SDG 5. This partnership emphasizes the importance of collaboration in creating a supportive educational environment and providing students with valuable resources and opportunities. The agreement includes initiatives such as medical and dental services, skills training, and disaster risk management training, all aimed at fostering inclusivity and empowering individuals. UNP is committed to sustainable development and gender equality in education through this collaboration.
UNP inks MOA with Sta. Maria barrio, school
On November 17, 2023, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) established a partnership with Ag-agrao, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur, and Ag-agrao National High School through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, UNP President, along with local leaders Mr. Danilo B. Derige and Mr. Rolando Buenavista Jr. This collaboration emphasizes the commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality, recognizing the importance of empowering all individuals, especially women and girls, within the educational framework and community initiatives. The MOA aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment at Ag-agrao National High School, promoting equal access to educational resources and opportunities for all students. Among the targeted services included in the partnership are skills training, health education, and community engagement programs, which are designed to uplift and empower women in the community. Additionally, the initiative recognizes the importance of gender-responsive approaches in capacity-building activities, ensuring that both women and men have equal opportunities to participate in skills development and leadership training. By fostering an environment that promotes gender equality, this partnership seeks to enhance the role of women in the community, contributing to sustainable development and the overall improvement of social conditions. Through this collaboration, UNP and the local community aim to dismantle barriers to gender equality, creating a more equitable and inclusive society where everyone can thrive and contribute to community development.

It promotes inclusivity, equality, & empowerment for individuals, regardless of their gender or cultural heritage.
Project SILNAG (Students of Public Administration Interface with the Local Governments and National Government Agencies at the Grassroots)
Project SILNAG (Students of Public Administration Interface with the Local Governments and National Government Agencies at the Grassroots) is an extension activity of the Master of Public Administration Program that aims to promote good governance and the provision of better public services to the various local government units in the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Abra. This project includes conducting capability training seminars among barangay and youth leaders, community outreach program for children, fostering partnership with LGUs, and benchmarking activities about the best practices of local government units in public service.
