SDG 5 - GENDER EQUALITY
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) is not merely paying lip service to gender equality; it’s actively embodying these principles. Since 1997, UNP’s Center for Gender and Development (CGAD) has been at the forefront, integrating gender perspectives into every facet of University life. The institution’s GAD Focal Point System works relentlessly to eradicate discrimination.
UNP takes a firm stance on safety, addressing sexual harassment issues, contributing to SDG target 5.2 on eliminating violence against women. The University backs its commitment with substantial financial support through its annual GAD Budget, ensuring resources for meaningful change.
The University’s dedication extends beyond the present, with a five-year Gender and Development Agenda serving as a blueprint for a more equitable future. UNP has forged strategic partnerships, including collaboration with the Philippine Commission on Women, to deliver high-quality gender sensitivity training.
In academic spheres, UNP is revolutionizing education with a gender-sensitive curriculum that challenges traditional paradigms. The institution’s research delves deep into gender issues, advocating for the recognition of unpaid work.
Looking forward, UNP is developing mentorship programs for women in STEM fields, crafting policies to enhance work-life balance, and implementing regular gender audits to measure progress, and identify areas for improvement.
Gender equality is not just an aspiration in the University โ it is a fundamental part of the institution’s identity. The University is actively shaping a future where all individuals, regardless of gender, can flourish and reach their full potential.
