SDG 6 - CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) has implemented several initiatives to address Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water, and sanitation for all.
Description: Several university units, including the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the University Research and Development Office (URDO), and the University Information Office (UIO), engaged in a coastal clean-up and tree planting activity. This hands-on initiative directly addresses the improvement of water quality by removing waste from coastal ecosystems. It also supports the restoration of water-related ecosystems through the planting of new trees, contributing to cleaner water and a healthier environment.
Description: The College of Fine Arts and Design visited Sto. Tomas Elementary School to conduct a community outreach program. This event likely included activities focused on environmental and water conservation awareness for young students. By educating the youth on responsible water usage and proper waste disposal, the program aims to promote long-term improvements in water quality and efficiency within the community.
Description: The College of Teacher Education launched an environmental protection program that included a coastal clean-up activity. This initiative, part of the university's broader efforts for its 59th anniversary, directly improves water quality by removing pollutants from the coastline. The program promotes responsible waste management and integrated water resource management among students and the local community.
Description: The Department of Languages and Humanities (DLH) and the University Extension Office led a recycling training and waste management seminar. The program aimed to equip participants, including residents of a local barangay, with knowledge on proper solid waste management. By promoting recycling and proper disposal, this initiative helps prevent waste from polluting water sources, thereby improving water quality and protecting vital ecosystems.
