SDG 6 - CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) exhibits a comprehensive commitment to clean water and sanitation, initiatives covering professional education, environmental conservation, coastal protection, and waste management. UNP produces qualified professionals capable of addressing sanitation challenges, with the College of Engineering celebrating graduates' success in the Sanitary Engineering Licensure Examination, indicating the university's commitment to training experts who can design and implement water and sanitation systems ensuring public health and environmental protection.

UNP actively protects water-related ecosystems through extensive environmental conservation programs. The University Research and Development Office led coastal clean-up and tree planting activities directly contributing to the health of coastal ecosystems and water quality, while the College of Architecture conducted coastal clean-ups improving the sanitation and health of marine and coastal environments. The university partnered with the Pagsanaaan Sur community for a marine conservation program protecting water sources and coastal ecosystems, while student organizations prepared for coastal clean-ups highlighting the importance of student involvement in environmental protection. UNP launched Operation ERWIN (Environmental Recovery and Waves of Initiative for a New Beginning) on October 17, 2024, a major initiative focused on comprehensive environmental recovery and conservation efforts addressing water ecosystem health and sustainability.

UNP implements widespread tree planting initiatives that prevent soil erosion and maintain the health of water sources. The Environmental Management Office led tree planting events in Caoayan taking direct action to improve environmental conditions and protect water sources, while the International Affairs and External Linkages Office conducted tree planting initiatives helping prevent soil erosion and maintain watershed health. The University Information Office initiated impactful tree planting in Tamurong, Caoayan, showcasing collective effort in environmental preservation, while the Information and Communications Technology Office spearheaded tree planting activities contributing to local environment and water quality health. The College of Criminal Justice Education led blood donation and tree planting events promoting community health and environmental sustainability, while the College of Communication and Information Technology's outreach efforts included sustainability initiatives contributing to a cleaner environment. The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences led outreach activities including discussions on sustainability directly linked to responsible management of water and sanitation, while the College of Fine Arts and Design's visits to local schools included environmental awareness activities aligning with clean water and sanitation goals.
